The idea of Cathays Brass was conceived at the start of 2014 by a small group of former Cardiff Students. The purpose of the band is to allow all members of the community an opportunity to socialise through the medium of Brass playing.
After many months of hard work and planning the idea finally became a reality in May when we gained the support of world renowned tenor horn soloist Owen Farr, Local Labour councillor Sam Knight, and former accountant David Biddel. The three of which became the first trustees of the band.
02.07.14 saw the first public performance under the name Cathays Brass as the founding committee took-over the familiar Heath Pub Quiz and turned it into a Music based Quiz featuring live music from the band as part of their fundraising and awareness night.
The first official event run by Cathays Brass to help them engage members was the highly motivational Launch Day on 25.10.14. This day saw support for our initiative shown from guest conductor (and Trustee) Owen Farr, the Band of the Prince of Wales Division who kindly provided rehearsal equipment for the day and composers Matthew Hall and Christopher Bond who both donated compositions.
Community is key to the objectives of the band, we aim to give an opportunity for all brass players in the heart of Cardiff to come together to play fun and exciting music. Performing regularly at concerts and events throughout the area.
Cathays Brass rehearse weekly on Monday evenings 7.00pm - 9.00pm at Cathays Sports and Social Club (with any late comers always welcome.)
